As we bid farewell to February—widely recognised as Art Month in Cape Town—we do so with immense gratitude and pride, reflecting on the incredible milestones achieved by Under the Aegis. This past month has been nothing short of extraordinary, as we marked two significant moments in our journey.
First, we had the honor of unveiling our gallery’s solo exhibition featuring the remarkable work of Buqaqawuli Nobakada, a showcase that captivated audiences with its depth and storytelling.
Secondly, we celebrated a historic achievement of Anelisa Mangcu—her very first institutional exhibition—by presenting the exquisite work of Billie Zangewa at the prestigious Norval Foundation. This moment was particularly special as it marked the first time her work has been exhibited on African soil, a long-awaited and deeply meaningful homecoming for such an influential artist.
To bring this chapter to a fitting close, we gathered our community for an unforgettable evening made possible through the generous support of Hennessy. This intimate dinner served as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and celebration, where we raised our glasses to the beauty of African art, the spirit of collaboration, and the ever-growing appreciation for luxury and culture on the continent. It was a night filled with warmth, shared stories, and the collective joy of witnessing the expansion of African artistry on the global stage. As we look ahead, we remain committed to championing artists, fostering dialogue, and continuing to elevate the creative voices shaping the future of contemporary art.
